Today, our Christian faith is under severe attack. Several believers are losing their lives through persecutions and unlawful deaths. In so many countries, the relevance of the gospel and our Lord Jesus Christ is watered down. In a lot of countries, mentioning the name of Jesus or the practice of praying in public schools is a punishable crime.
That’s not all; lawmakers are signing laws that are unfavourable to our faith. In the churches today, lots of ministers are preaching and teaching things that are inconsistent with the true teachings of Christ. Never in history have there been more varying beliefs and denominations such that the average person is almost confused as to who to believe or who to follow. It does not take a prophet for one to know that this is the handiwork of the enemy.
With this premises, what is the responsibility of the believer? What does God expect us to do in these times? God expects us to watch and pray. Jesus offered that solution with the appendage- so that you will not fall into temptation.
When the devil wants to lead someone astray, he rarely comes in a black hood, horns and a long tail. He comes trickily. He comes like the Bible describes as an angel of light. The Apostle Paul tells us in 2nd Corinthians 11:14; And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Why would he do that? Because he doesn’t want to announce his presence.
We must pray for ourselves. We must pray for other fellow believers. We must pray that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ will shine and prevail in our world. Jesus said we should pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth more labourers in the field. We must pray and declare that more Christians are inspired in the right path and they stick to the calling and purpose of God for their lives. We must pray for those in countries where the gospel does not have free course- that they be strengthened in the faith. We must pray that they stand strong in the face of staggering opposition. We must pray for our leaders that they approve and sign in laws favourable for the gospel. We must pray.
Even if you are in an environment that is conducive for the practice of your faith; you must remember your brother who perhaps is not. Jesus will reward you for doing such and while he might not come down to pray for these people, he can stir your heart to pray and he will answer.
Go ahead and pray right now. The Bible says when we ask anything according to his will, he will answer us.
