A lot of people today have this question on their lips and in their hearts; “How do I know if I am a Christian”? Having heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, having heard of the truths concerning heaven and hell, how can I be sure that I am living everyday on earth pleasing to God? How can I be certain that I will not spend eternity in hell? How do I get assured of my Salvation? Well, let us start tackling these questions one at a time.
As a Christian or follower of Jesus Christ, you must realize that your faith is based on the word of God; the Bible. The Bible contains the express view of the mind of God toward man, life, eternity and every other subject on earth. The Christian life is described and defined by the Bible. It shows us how God wants us to think and to relate with the things around us. In these series, our explanations will be done by the word of God.
People ask questions such as; “Who am I”? “Why am I here”? “Where am I going to”? And to these questions, lots of people have no answers to.We will let the Bible answer these questions for us but first how valuable is this Bible?
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:105
First, all of the body of truth (The Bible) is God-breathed. The Bible isn’t a book of stories formulated by old men and passed down generation after generation. No, it rather is God’s manual for life to ensure that God’s servant (God’s child) on earth will be instructed, guided, taught, improved and inspired in the life of righteousness we were called to live.
In the second scripture, David tells of his relationship with the word of God. He says; your word is my light. What is light? Light is that which describes. Words such as enlighten, inform or the phrase; “Throw light on the matter” reveal to us the purpose or functions of light. Light dispels the darkness. Imagine walking into a dark room and not being able to see anything in the room. What happens when someone strikes a match or turns on the light switch or puts a flash light on? The darkness disappears immediately. This is how David describes his relationship with the word of God. In other words, your word dispels any form of darkness in my life.
All these bring us to the fundamental truth that God’s word is the truth about our lives. If you want to know the truth about your health; the word of God tells it. If you want to know the truth about your finances; the word of God tells it. If you want to know the truth about your salvation, the word of God tells it too. Check this scripture below.
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Romans 3:4
Compare that with the words of Jesus;
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17
Similar isn’t it? God’s word is the truth. Let’s add one more scripture to the mix.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Peter 1:19
If we line up all three scriptures, we see that God’s word is the truth about our lives and it is stronger and surer than any prophecy, any vision, any dream, any feeling, revelation or the like that anyone receives.
