Having arrived here lets change gears. Let’s talk about Salvation. We did not receive Salvation from God because we’ve been doing all the nice and right stuff. You are not applauded or declared righteous before God. Examine this scripture below;

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:!

We are at peace with God because we are justified by faith. God declared us justified or not guilty by faith. What faith are we talking about here?

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10: 9-10

By confessing Jesus as Lord of your life and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead, God declared you saved. You now have peace with God. God doesn’t look at you and see you as an enemy. The work Jesus did on Calvary automatically got imputed to your account.

Now having been saved, the next step is to start living for Christ. The redemptive work of Christ on Calvary brought you into the Kingdom of God. In this Kingdom, there are principles to live by. First, you do not live by your feelings. You are not a Christian because you feel ‘holy’. You live in a world where there are things that have the ability to attack your faith. You could wake up feeling depressed or you could get back home from School someday and not feel righteous. That is perfectly normal. God does not communicate to us using our feelings rather the communication is in our Spirits. See the scripture below;

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Romans 8:16

This is one of the most powerful scriptures in the Bible. The confirmation and assurance of our salvation is not based on our feelings but by the word of God and the Spirit of God in us.

So the question “How do you know that you are a Christian” is answered.

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2

It’s right there. The Bible says for you who has believed and confessed Jesus as Lord of your life, right now you are a Child of God. The confirmation is by the Word of God and the Spirit of God who lives in us. The Bible shows us who we have become in God’s sight and the word of God (The Bible) gives the confirmation.

Your feelings and senses are a wrong parameter for judging your faith in Christ. In fact talking about feelings and the senses, the Bible tells us something remarkable.

That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Romans 9:8

In other words, those who are ruled by their feelings and by their senses are not the children of God. God wants us to let his word rule us. He wants us to have his word as the final authority about our lives.

Living for Christ will involve us letting the word of God and the Spirit of God guide our dictates. Here is one more scripture to buttress this.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25.

The Amplified Version of the Bible makes that clearer;

If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit [g]we have our life in God, let us go forward [ h] walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]Galatians 5:25.

So having received peace and acceptability with God, you know you are saved because the Bible says so. Next for you is to live a life controlled by the Holy Spirit.
