In Matthew 13:7, the word tells us “And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them”: Jesus told us that the next set of seeds from this sower fell among thorns. This brings to mind the scripture in Jeremiah 4:3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

Every farmer knows the importance of having his seeds planted in the right environment hence that the seeds fell on thorns meant a predestined unfortunate end. Jesus told us what this means and how we how today’s thorns can deprive us of receiving from God.

In verse 22, Jesus tells us; “He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful”. This fellow received the word of God, the promises of God and is on his way to a great Christian life but he still has an eye on the world. This is the group of believers who want to argue if it is okay to kiss and not to go all the way in having sex with one who you are married to.

The standard of God’s word according to James 4:4; “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God”.

Having come into Christ, we must ensure there are no carryovers from the world. The bible says in 2nd Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity”. We should have no business fumbling and meddling with the things from the world because we are of a different kingdom- the Kingdom of Light.

As a child of God, make up your mind that the word of God will be the final authority in your life. Don’t live for Christ on Sundays alone and it’s ‘business as usual’ the other days of the week.

In this year 2014, your resolve must be to live your life exclusively for Jesus Christ. The bible tells us in 2nd Corinthians 5:15 “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again”. That’s God’s will for us; to live exclusively for him.

Where are you in your walk of faith today? The word of God will profit you if your eyes are off the distractions and cares of the world.
