We examined the seeds that fell by the highway and we saw that when one does not understand the word of God, the words will be as this sower’s seeds that fell by the wayside. The bible told us the fate- the birds and fowls of the air quickly came and ate them up. Jesus would explain later in the chapter that this signifies one who did not understand the word when it was spoken.

Notice how Jesus explained this event in the book of Mark. In Mark 4:15:And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. Jesus said the devil will come for that word immediately. The devil knows how important that word is and that that word is capable of changing the hearer’s life.

In Hebrews 4:12-13 the bible tells us “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do”. In other words, the word is all powerful and there is nothing the word of God cannot do.

So how can we prepare our minds for the word of God so we don’t miss out in the appointed time of blessing?

Firstly, whenever we are in the presence of the word of God, we must give God our full attention. God cannot communicate to you if your mind is busy with something else when you are in the presence of the word. For instance, right now you are receiving the word of God and counsel capable of changing your life but if your attention is on something else, there is no way you can be blessed. In Proverbs, the Bible said; “My son attend to my words”; in other words, give attention to my words.

Secondly, we must do what the prophet Hosea spoke of by the Spirit in Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. The soil of your heart needs to be broken up before you receive the word and this can only be done by prayers.

Before you hear God’s word either in a church or such materials as this where the word of God is shared, take out some time and pray and get your heart ready for God’s word. When you do, you know God’s word will be a blessing to you. Remember when God sends his word, he has a purpose for it.

When you do these, you can be rest assured that God’s word will make an entrance into your heart. We will continue tomorrow.

God bless you.
